SUMMER MAINTENANCE FOR YOUR JAGUAR

These hotter months really test what your vehicle can do, but if you keep up with specific maintenance, you can be sure that your Jaguar will make it through the summer months with no problem! Keep an eye on your battery: Many people wrongly believe that batteries are worse off in the cold. For anyone who lives in a place like Miami, it’s important to know that summer heat can have a much more negative impact on your battery than a bad winter ever could. Vibration and heat are the worst things that your battery can combat, and can lead to failure and an internal breakdown. The most important thing you can do is make sure that your battery is properly mounted, and that you are cleaning any corrosive buildup that you notice from around the cable clamps and battery terminals. For those Jaguars with batteries older than three years, bring your vehicle in, and we can have it tested.

Check the cooling system: After your battery, the next thing you need to start thinking about is your engine and how to make sure it stays cool. The cooling system used for your engine should be flushed frequently, and between those flushes, you need to make sure that the coolant is filled to the right level. If you are in a desperate situation, you can even have a 50/50/mix of water and coolant. Remember to never, ever, remove the radiator cap while the engine is still hot. You will want to do all of this while the vehicle has been sitting for a while so the engine is cool to the touch.

Keep tires inflated properly: Your tires are the unsung heroes with your vehicle. They are what are always in contact with the pavement, and therefore, if something is wrong with your tires, that can cause a chain reaction with everything else. Make sure that your tires match what the owner’s vehicle tells you that they should be, and if you are having any issues in general, bring your vehicle into our service center and we can make sure that the treads are not too worn out.

Monitor fluid levels: Just like the importance of coolant, you will want to make sure that all of the fluids in your vehicle are at the right levels. Whether it’s motor oil, power steering fluid, brake fluid, or anything else, they need to be at the correct levels to make sure that everything continues to run like it should.

Maintain your air conditioning: While we primarily have been focusing on the health of your vehicle, air conditioning is a way to make sure that you stay comfortable during the summer, too. If your air conditioning has been giving you problems previously, now is a really important time to get it serviced to make sure that you won’t be driving around in oppressive heat.
