CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT THESE MATCHED PAIRS?
The pairs that are going to be on sale in March 2021 make sure to pay tribute to the ‘9600 HP’ and the ’77 RW’. They both have played pivotal roles in the unveiling of the vehicle in Geneva, Switzerland, which happened in March 1961. With such a great reaction to these vehicles, one of the engineers, Norman Dewis, was told to drop everything and go to Geneva in a ’77 RW’. Both vehicles ended up being used for media road tests, and proved that they were just as amazing as everything thought they were going to be. The top speed at the time was even 150 mph, and it featured jet aircraft-inspired lines that were specifically honed in a wind tunnel.
WHAT ELSE DO YOU HAVE TO SHARE ABOUT THE E-TYPE 60 EDITION?
Every single edition that is being sold will be an existing 1960s 3.8-litre E-type. They are being fully restored with specific and exclusive 60th-anniversary tribute specifications. Another interesting thing to note is that one of them will be a Flat Out Grey ‘9600 HP’ coupe, along with one Drop Everything Green ’77 RW’ roadster. These special paint formulations are only going to be on these editions, and nothing else. You’ll even find that they have a few specific 60th anniversary commemorative design details.
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE ORIGINAL E-TYPES?
The E-types have always been a part of the zeitgeist of the sixties, which is why it became only the 3rd car to join the Museum of Modern Art’s design collection in 1996. Some incredibly famous people owned this vehicle, including George Harrison, Steve McQueen, Frank Sinatra, Tony Curtis, and Brigitte Bardot. This is a vehicle that has been turning heads since it was first unveiled, and the E-type 60 Collection is here to make sure that it’s a vehicle that will never be forgotten.
